dc.description.abstractLow molecularweightfucoidan,preparedbyradicaldegradationusinggammaraywasinvestigatedfor its antioxidantactivitieswithdifferentassaymethods.Asthemolecularweightoffucoidandecreased with ahigherabsorbeddose,ferric-reducingantioxidantpowervaluesincreased,but β-carotene bleaching inhibitiondidnotchangesignificantly.Theantioxidantactivityofacid-degradedfucoidanwas also examinedtoinvestigatetheeffectofdifferentdegradationmethods.Atthesamemolecularweight, fucoidan degradedbygammairradiationshowedhigher1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazylradicalscaven- ging activitythanthatobservedwiththeacidicmethod.Thisresultrevealsthatinadditiontomolecular weight, thedegradationmethodaffectstheantioxidantactivityoffucoidan.-
