Atmospheric carbon monoxide (CO) plays an important role in ozone-related chemistry in the troposphere, especially under low-NOx conditions like the open ocean. During the SHIPPO (SHIpborne Pole-to-Pole Observations) cruise in summer 2012, atmospheric and dissolved CO in the surface water were continually analyzed using both gas chromatographic and cavity ring-down spectroscopic techniques onboard using KOPRI's icebreaker R/V Araon. We will present the result of underway atmospheric CO measurement and analyze the contribution of each source of CO (Figure 1.) and its emission regions using a 3-D global chemical transport model (MOZART-4). Also, based on the underway dissolved CO observation, we will discuss the potential importance of oceanic CO in marine boundary layer.12, atmospheric and dissolved CO in the surface water were continually analyzed using both gas chromatographic and cavity ring-down spectroscopic techniques onboard using KOPRI's icebreaker R/V Araon.
