Abstract
Different behaviors of storm activity and eddy-mean flow interaction over the Southern Hemisphere in different strength and phase of ENSO are investigated during the austral summer seasons using reanalysis and global model. The reanalysis and model results indicate that tropical SST forcing modulates the eddy-mean flow interaction in Southern midlatitude as a response. However, the response is not linearly related with the SST forcing and lead to significant variations in zonal wind above the threshold in SST forcing.
