Upper-level circulation and the associated surface temperature variability over eurasian continent during winter season are known to be largely controlled by several teleconnection patterns such as Artic Oscillation (AO), East Atlantic/Western Russia (EA/WR) and Scandinavia (SCAND). Distinguishable interannual sst variabilities of north atlantic ocean are examined to explain the origin of such different Eurasian teleconnection patterns. Three distinctive sst modes over north atlantic obtained by eof analysis are investigated for further analysis and it is found that the eurasian teleconnection patterns are sensitive to the sst patterns over north atlantic. Especially, it is revealed that EA/WR and SCAND patterns are seperately linked to different North Atlantic sst eof modes. Also, it is found that the Atlantic sst mode related to SCAND shows warm sst anomaly over barents kara sea region that have linkage with sea ice reduction.-
