dc.description.abstract | ThefreshwaterbudgetoftheArcticOceanisakeycomponentgoverningthedeepwaterformationinthe North Atlanticandtheglobalclimatesystem.Weanalyzedtheisotopiccompositionofneodymium(εNd) in authigenicphasesofmarinesedimentsontheMendeleevRidgeinthewesternArcticOceanspanningan estimatedtimeintervalfrompresenttoabout75kaBP.Thiscontinuousrecordwasusedtoreconstructthe εNd of thepolardeepwater(PDW)andchangesinfreshwatersourcestothePDWthroughtime.Threedeviations in εNd fromalongtermaverageof ? 10.2wereidentified atestimated46? 51,35? 39 and13? 21 kaBP.The estimated46? 51kaBPeventcanbetracedtoburstingofice-dammedlakesaccompanyingthecollapseofthe Barents?
