Seaandwestern Canada Basininthesummerseason,from20Julyto10August2010,usinga 13C?15N dualtracer technique.ThedailycarbonuptakerateinthenortheastChukchiSeain2010wasextremelylow,witha mean of29.8mgCm 2 d 1 (SD¼17.6mgCm 2 d 1). Regionalandtemporaldifferencescausedthe low productionratecomparedtopreviousstudiesinthenortheastChukchiSea.InthewesternCanada Basin, themeandailycarbonuptakeratefromthisstudywas20.6mgCm 2 d 1, whichwasinfluenced by thedominanceofsmallphytoplanktonresultinginalowcarbonuptakerateintheregion.The regionallyhighnitrateuptakeratescomparedtoammoniumuptakeratesinthewesternCanadaBasin can becausedbywarm-coreeddies,whichsupplyhighlevelsofnitratetotheeuphoticzone.Warm-core eddies intheCanadaBasinsubstantiallyenhancedlocalphytoplanktonproductionandthecontribution of largephytoplankton.Therefore,theeffectsofphysicalforcingevents(suchas "an" eddy) onthe primary productionneedtobeexaminedfurthertobetterunderstandchangesofprimaryproduction under ongoingenvironmentalchangesintheArcticOcean.-
