Abstract
Deception Island is a subaerial Quaternary active volcano among a series of submarine volcanoes situated between Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands. Thies island experienced freqauent volcanic eruptions since 19th centry. Thermal manifestation is characterized by low-T fumarolic activity and hot springs. Ther relative abundance of N2, He and Ar of the gases indicates that the gases were derived from mantle. Thie view was confirmed by magmatic f13C of CO2 and high He isotopic rations.
