Abstract
-
Dimethylsulfide (DMS) is a climate-relevant chemical species potentially involved in a feedback loop known as the 'CLAW' hypothesis. This links the biogeochemical processes in the ocean and climate change through the production of DMS-derived aerosols. Biological productivity is a key factor controlling the ocean's capacity to uptake carbon dioxide from the atmosphere as well as an important parameter to estimate DMS emission. In this study, we present the distribution of dimethylsulfide and net community production (NCP) rates calculated from O2/Ar ratios determined by continuous underway measurements on a R/V Araon’s cruise through the Arctic Ocean in August 2019. Water temperature, salinity, fluorescence will be also presented to help the interpretation of temporal and spatial variation of O2/Ar ratios and DMS.
